Improving facilities for patients with dementia was a top priority for a construction project at Ashbrook Court Care Home in Sewardstone.

G&A Group were contracted to carry out widespread refurbishments at the North London care home – including creating a sweet shop, complete with fitted furniture and counters, as a central point for residents to reminisce and interact with.

Work included improvements to external and internal features and structural alterations to form new rooms while also giving careful consideration to completing the work while residents were living in the care home.

Geoff Doran, Project Manager, said:

“G&A Group have a strong team who are used to working in occupied or operational premises – areas where work or daily life is going on around us. We worked closely with the care home management team to minimise any disruption for the care home residents and staff.

“The project included refurbishing specialist bathrooms, building a fully-fitted hair salon, creating new kitchenettes and a new bistro area. We had to carry out structural work to the building and install new steelwork, walls, plumbing and emergency lighting. We also removed an old porch and fitted a new glass canopy, weighing just under a tonne, which meant reinforcing the front structure of the building to support it.”

The 26-week project was completed successfully in June 2017 and also included new doors, external remodelling and upgrades and redecoration to existing corridors.
