Contracted by Volkerfitzpatrick, G&A Fire Protection worked to supply and install composite panels, intumescent paint and steel framed vision panels to the main office and hub offices of the DC3 DIRFT III site. These works were carried out entirely in house, providing fire separation of 120mins and fire protection of 60mins to the unit.

Client: DIRFT
Main Contractor: Volkerfitzpatrick
Value: £95,000

Working to redevelop and transform the Rugby Radio Station site, DIRFTIII is the next phase of the rapidly expanding rail interchange.

“The expansion of DIRFT comprises: a rail link from the existing terminal to a replacement rail terminal which includes new transhipment sidings, container storage and an HGV reception area; up to 714,000 sq m of rail served storage and distribution floorspace; operational facilities including rail control building and staff facilities; a lorry park; strategic open space, and; infrastructure to serve including roads and bridges.”

G&A Fire Protection were contracted by Volkerfitzpatrick to provide fire protection and whitewall to the main office and hub offices. This was in the form of 150mm thick composite panels supplied and installed to give 120min fire separation between the three offices and main warehouse building.

As specified by the client’s thickness specifications, we supplied PAROC AST-F panels. High-class steel-faced sandwich panels with a core of stone wool, these provide protection for projects with high fire requirements.

Window, single door and double door openings were also cut by us.

Due to the direction of the 120 minute fire protection, we determined that a cost-effective solution of 60 minute intumescent paint as opposed to 120 minute was required, providing a cost saving of around 70%.

Steel framed internal vision panels were also supplied and installed by us to the hub offices.

G&A carried out all works in house without subcontracting of work packages – from fire protection and stopping to the supply and install of fire windows – allowing us to provide a smooth service to the client and cohesive solutions to the fire protection necessary for this site.
